'TAILORED SKILLS' - COAT DRAFTING, TOILING & FITTING: A Three Day In Person Workshop Series
Join a small, focused group (maximum of 3 participants) for an immersive, hands-on workshop series dedicated to Coat Drafting, Toiling, and Fitting.
Dates:
Friday 19th – Sunday 21st September 2025
Time: 10am–5pm daily
Workshop Overview:
18 hours of practical learning in a supportive small-group setting.
Covering coat drafting fundamentals, toiling techniques, and personalised fitting.
Reference materials provided.
All materials included.
Light snacks and refreshments provided.

Drafting system instructions and diagrams (front, back, side body and sleeves).
Materials list.
Recommended reading list.

Daily Breakdown:
Day One: Drafting the Jacket Body
10:00am – 1:00pm
Welcome and introductions
Understanding body measurements, figurations, and the scaled drafting system.
Demonstration: Drafting the front, side body, and back of a tailored jacket.
Begin working on your own draft.
1:00pm – 2:00pm – Lunch Break
Bring your own lunch or explore local cafés and restaurants within a five-minute walk.
2:00pm – 5:00pm
Complete front, back, and side body drafts to your own measurements.
Stylise the draft and check measurements.
Understanding seam allowances in your pattern.
Demonstration: Drafting the top and under sleeves.
Day Two: Sleeves & Toiling
10:00am – 1:00pm
Finish sleeve drafts to your own measurements.
Trace and create a working pattern set (master + working copies).
Introduction to toiling: how to strike and cut your calico pieces.
Demonstration: Striking and cutting out your pattern on to calico.
1:00pm – 2:00pm – Lunch Break
2:00pm – 5:00pm
Transfer and cut your pattern in calico.
Begin mark stitching and assembling your toile.
Day Three: Fitting & Feedback
10:00am – 1:00pm
Complete sewing your toile.
Add shoulder pads and construct an under collar.
Apply the under collar to your toile.
1:00pm – 2:00pm – Lunch Break
2:00pm – 5:00pm
Fit and analyse your finished toile.
Receive feedback on fit and construction.
Learning from each others work.
Final Notes:
Suitable for all skill levels—from beginners to experienced makers looking to deepen their knowledge.
The drafting method is adaptable to both female and male figures.
We will be drafting a classic tailored jacket/ coat, like the one in the thumbnail. Style details can be changed once the main body of the jacket fits well.
